I think the Unity interface is great. But I also think its a bit of a pain to use, so I definitely would like it to have a way to change the screen size and color. And I feel like it would be a nice addition to Ubuntu Touch, as its something that would allow Ubuntu to have the ability to change its design without having to have an application to do it.
The idea of a phone that can be customized to change the look, but not the interface, seems to be a fairly common theme in devices. I think Ubuntu Touch’s design might have just that edge, but I see that as a great thing.
Ubuntu Touch is already available for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 with the Ubuntu Touch UI, and it’s currently available for the Nexus S with the Ubuntu UI. Ubuntu Touch is only available for Nexus devices at the moment, and it won’t be available on any Nexus devices until next month.
I was thinking about what you are talking about, so I asked my friend who works for Canonical, and he told me he sees a Canonical connection to the Ubuntu Touch UI even though it is a separate project with its own code.
Canonical is the company behind Ubuntu (which powers the Nexus phones), but there is a big difference between their Ubuntu UI and Ubuntu Touch. The Ubuntu Touch UI on Nexus S and Nexus 5/6, while similar to the Ubuntu UI, is considerably more mature and polished, and even features the ability to access your home directory through the traditional launcher.
I know that Canonical and the Nexus S have a lot in common, but I don’t know what Canonical is doing and how it can work. I think it’s working out great, and Canonical is trying to bring in a little more new functionality from Android to the Nexus S and S 56, and maybe even to the Nexus 56.
It’s really the Nexus S that is the best of the Nexus devices, and I think it’s great that Canonical is trying to bring something more from Android onto it. But honestly, what I’m saying is that its really the Nexus S, but if Canonical would just give the Nexus S a little more of their own, I think it could be a lot more interesting to use.
