Some people think that the contours of the building are the hardest thing to get right. You can definitely draw the line between the contours of a building and the contours of a room.
To me, the hardest thing to get right is the contours of a building because when you’re working with a CAD system, as I’m sure everyone is, you can’t really get too close. You get the point, but you can’t touch it. You can’t go over the edge of the drawing, and you can’t really see what’s under the sheet of paper.
Thats exactly how we feel when we pull the sheet of paper off the drawing board. You can only see the contour of the room, and you cant really get too close to it because its under your feet. However, if you have a CAD program, then you can see a lot of little things that arent in the drawing. You can use the grid lines to make sure that you’re drawing a smooth surface.
Not only can you see the contours of the room, but you also can see what your drawing will look like after you have created it. I think that is a great way to learn about how to draw a room, especially if you’re getting into a more intricate model. But if you are just getting started, its not that helpful.
I was always taught that you should never put a pencil to paper unless you were drawing a picture of a finished product. However, you should never be afraid to try. If you see that it doesn’t look right, you can always go back and fix it. It may be late and you’ve just finished your homework, but if you see a mistake, don’t be afraid to get it right.
I always say that if you try to draw the room you will feel the same way about it that you feel about drawing a perfect sculpture. There is a bit of artistry involved in creating a good piece of art, but it is also about creating a pleasing and interesting environment.
In my opinion, the best way to really get the full texture and depth of a room is to look at the room from the floor up. The floor (or the base of the wall) will be the most important thing to be able to see in the room. If the floor isnt right, you can always go back and make it better.
