If I were to give the most obvious answer to how I would get my wife to buy me a new car, I would say I would give her a silver iPhone. Why? Because I like to imagine myself as a guy who has been on the road for most of his life, which means most of his days he has been on the road for a few hours. This means that he should have at least a 128GB storage option, and for something so tiny, it makes sense.
A lot of people don’t get that when they buy a new car, and they probably don’t want to go out and buy a new one, and they probably don’t want to go out and buy a new phone. But they probably want a phone that’s a really big phone, and they probably don’t want to buy the new one, and they probably don’t want to buy a new cell phone, and they probably don’t want to buy the old one.
There’s no way for Apple to know that the iPhone 12 is the same phone that shipped in 2008, and no way for them to know that the 12 still has a 128GB storage option. It’s just a matter of when that phone is going to ship.
In some ways this is exactly right. 128GB is just another version of the iPhone 12 (and a version that is more than twice as fast as the iPhone 12.1), and if Apple wants to keep people buying iPhones, they can’t just keep increasing the storage options.
The problem is that 128GB silver iPhones have been slow in getting to market, and just like Apple, they are also about to get a new 64GB version of the phone. With that in mind, the 128GB is just another version of the iPhone 12 and a version that is just bigger and better. Like the 128GB iPhone 12 Pro Max, it’s the same phone, just bigger and with a bigger storage option.
It’s not that big, but it is larger than the iPhone 12, so it’s a bit of a step up.
