I don’t think its a bad thing. Im all for expository writing. It keeps the story fresh and lets the reader get to know certain characters better. Im just not a fan of expository writing that is trying to do too much.

I think it is a fine line. Expository writing can be great if the writer understands the characters and what the story is about. If the writer tries to do it too much it can be difficult to follow the story. If the writer tries to do too little it can cause the readers to become bored.

I’m sure it’s a little hard to swallow if you’ve got the same problem. We don’t see it as a bad thing. It’s easy to see why most people would like to get the job done and just get off the couch and start working on the story. It only takes a few moments for someone to get there and when you do that it’s easy to get back on the page quickly.

The problem is, most writing that doesn’t make it easy to get back on the page is just bad writing. It’s hard to get back to a story or a paragraph that you just finished reading without a few moments of struggle or back and forth to make the next paragraph flow better. A good author can be patient with their readers.
