Since the last Firebug release, I’ve been working on a fix for a bug where if you use the bookmarklet (Firefox’s bookmarklet) to navigate to a page inside a window, only that window will change.
That’s a great point, but the bugfix is the first one I’ve seen and it’s a little tricky. Ive had a lot of feedback on it, and this one is the first one I’ve gotten to do.
If you’ve got to fix this bug, I suggest you stay away from it. The main idea behind the fix is that the bookmarklet Firefox does not have the ability to close the window. If you don’t want this bug fixed, don’t do it. This is a bug in every bookmarklet Firefox, and it has been for years and years. If you don’t want it fixed, don’t do it.
In the Firefox bugfix, Firefox is adding a new bookmarklet that is supposed to close the window when you close the browser. Ive been using this bugfix for more than a year, and its been a constant pain in the ass to me. Ive even had a friend tell me to go through and delete the entire bookmarklet code file if he didnt like the fix.
This is exactly why you shouldnt fix it. It breaks everything. Every bookmarklet is there to help you do a little more of your work for you (read: the user). If you do it or if you do anything else, you will break everything.
I know what you’re going to say, I’ve tried a bunch of different things to fix this. It’s the same thing I always do. I try everything, I try everything I can think of. This is the second time I tried, with no luck. I am pretty sure I’m going to have to make it happen again.
Yes, its just a bug and there isn’t much we can do about it. But this time it is actually something that can affect the entire browser. To fix it, you would have to disable any add-ons that would load Javascript when you visit a site with this problem and then make sure your machine is patched with the latest version.

Mozilla also says it’s being worked on and will be fixed in a future version of Firefox.
If you’re using Firefox as your browser, you should be aware that this problem is not only affecting your browser, but also any other add-ons that would rely on Javascript.
