We did a study of one billion pages to find a strong positive correlation between the number of websites linking to a page and how much search traffic it gets. We then went back to the same one billion pages and determined how many pages had at least one link on them. We found that the more websites linking to a page, the more it will rank high in search.
So while most of your website’s visitors are probably not likely to check what you’re doing from the first page of the search results, Google may actually be using that link to figure out what you’re doing. I don’t know if Google is just throwing together a list of keywords to search for, but it would be interesting to see if they could figure out how they got there. It would be nice if Google had a database of those keywords and a list of webpages that Google was using to get results from. Even though they didn’t have a page to do this, Google might have some ideas.
